Deep Vein Thrombosis

Deep Vein Thrombosis is a blood clot that develops in the legs.  It is a dangerous situation, as the blood clot can dislodge and go to the lung, where a patient would then have difficulty breathing.  Two times when these can develop are after surgery and after a traumatic event to the calf.  We take calf pain very seriously and will send patients to the vascular lab for an ultrasound to make sure they do not have this condition.  If they do, they may need medications to dissolve the clot and prevent new ones for forming.  For more information, please click this link.
