Before You Schedule

Before scheduling, please review the information below. It explains the types of conditions we treat, important office policies, insurance requirements, and what to expect. Our Appointment Scheduling Service can help schedule appointments but cannot answer medical, insurance, billing, or policy questions.

Comprehensive Foot and Ankle Care

Seattle Foot & Ankle Center evaluates and treats a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, from common problems to complex medical and surgical conditions. Our goal is to provide comprehensive care whenever appropriate and to help patients receive the right treatment as early as possible.

We evaluate, diagnose, and treat a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, including:

Foot and Ankle Problems Deserve Specialist Evaluation Early

The foot and ankle are an anatomic region, and podiatry is the specialty dedicated to that region. A foot and ankle physician can first evaluate the problem, establish the diagnosis, and determine the appropriate course of care. When additional expertise is needed, that care can be coordinated as part of the treatment plan.

When condition persists despite initial treatment, the diagnosis and contributing factors may need to be reassessed.

Read more about direct access to specialty care. Early treatment leads to faster recovery.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your first visit is focused on identifying the problem, establishing an accurate diagnosis, and discussing appropriate treatment options.

Most first appointments include:

  • Comprehensive foot and ankle evaluation
  • Diagnosis when possible
  • Personalized treatment recommendations and next steps

We evaluate the full range of foot and ankle conditions. After establishing the diagnosis, Dr. Hoy will recommend the most appropriate treatment based on your individual needs. When treatment is within our practice’s scope, we can provide it directly; when a condition requires specialized treatment outside our scope, we will refer you to an appropriate specialist. Some medically appropriate treatments may be performed during the initial visit when appropriate, after the diagnosis has been established and the doctor has discussed the treatment, alternatives, risks, benefits, and any applicable costs. Other treatments may require a separate appointment.

Insurance and Financial Policies

Most major commercial insurance plans and Medicare are accepted.

We do not accept Medicaid as primary insurance or Medicaid managed care plans (including United Healthcare Community Care, Coordinated Care, Community Health Plan of Washington, Molina Healthcare, and Wellpoint). We are also prohibited from accepting private payment from patients enrolled in these plans.

It is the patient’s responsibility to confirm coverage prior to scheduling. Please verify directly with your insurance carrier:

  • Copay, deductible, and coinsurance details
  • Network participation
  • Referral requirements

As a point-of-service practice, known patient responsibility is collected at check-in and must be resolved before your visit begins. We cannot check in or see patients without completed paperwork and resolved payment responsibilities.

Before Your Appointment

Required Patient Forms (Approximately 5–10 Minutes)

To help your appointment run smoothly, we ask all new patients to complete a brief set of electronic registration forms and submit their insurance information before their visit. Most patients complete this process in 5–10 minutes.

After your appointment request is accepted:

  • You will receive your electronic forms through Mozart MD. (They are not on this website.)
  • Please complete all required forms within 24 hours.
  • Submit photos of the front and back of your insurance card within 24 hours by emailing Insurance@Seattlefeet.com or by uploading them through the Secure Messaging link.

Why We Ask You to Complete This Before Your Visit

Completing your paperwork in advance allows our office to:

  • Verify your insurance coverage and benefits.
  • Review your medical history before your appointment.
  • Prepare your medical record.
  • Estimate any patient responsibility before you arrive.
  • Spend your appointment focusing on your foot and ankle concerns rather than administrative paperwork.

Appointment Policy

Appointment requests remain pending until all required forms and insurance information have been received.

To allow sufficient time for insurance verification and chart preparation, appointments with incomplete paperwork or missing insurance information are automatically canceled 48 hours before the scheduled visit. Once all required information has been received, you are welcome to reschedule.

If insurance information is not submitted in advance or cannot be verified before your visit, we may be unable to bill your insurance at the time of service, and payment may be required at check-in.

Urgent Work-In Appointments

If you have a new or rapidly worsening foot or ankle problem that may require prompt medical evaluation, please specifically request an “urgent work-in appointment.”

Urgent work-in appointments may be appropriate for:

  • Suspected infection — including new redness, warmth, drainage, or rapidly increasing swelling
  • A new ulcer or open wound, especially if you have diabetes or circulation problems
  • Severe or rapidly worsening pain
  • A significant new injury, such as a fall, sports injury, or suspected fracture
  • Sudden significant swelling, particularly following an injury or when accompanied by severe pain
  • Urgent diabetic foot problems, including a new wound, infection, or rapidly changing condition

Urgent work-in appointments are limited appointments added between regularly scheduled visits and may increase waiting time for patients who already have appointments.

Not every painful or bothersome foot problem requires an urgent work-in. Problems that have been present for some time without a significant recent change are generally scheduled as routine appointments.

Travel plans, upcoming events, work schedules, or a preference to be seen sooner do not by themselves make a condition medically urgent.

We will do our best to accommodate time-sensitive medical conditions as scheduling allows.

How to Schedule

Phone Assistance

Please call 206-682-8741 for:

  • New appointments
  • Urgent work-in requests
  • Rescheduling
  • Appointment confirmations
  • Cancellations

If you call our office and reach our voicemail, our staff is likely assisting other patients and may be unable to answer your call immediately. Please schedule online below. If you need assistance from our office staff, please leave a detailed voicemail. We will return your call within 1–2 business days.

Cancellations and Earlier Appointments

We do not maintain a cancellation or wait list.

When an appointment becomes available due to a cancellation, it is often requested or scheduled shortly afterward. Because availability changes quickly, maintaining a wait list and contacting patients individually is generally not practical.

If you are hoping to be seen sooner than your scheduled appointment, we recommend:

  • Checking our online scheduling system regularly for newly available appointments
  • Calling to see whether an earlier appointment is currently available
  • If you find an appointment that works better for you, you may request that appointment and cancel your original appointment once the new appointment has been confirmed

Please understand that an earlier appointment cannot be reserved or held for you. Availability is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

We appreciate your understanding that our staff must prioritize patient care and scheduled appointments rather than maintaining an ongoing cancellation list.

Online Scheduling

Routine appointments may be requested online anytime at your convenience below.

Submitting an appointment request does not guarantee an appointment until it has been reviewed, accepted, and all required forms and insurance information have been received.

  • Scroll (>) until you find available time
  • Select a time and submit request
  • You’ll receive confirmation by email

If the patient is a minor, please enter the parent or guardian’s date of birth and write the child’s date of birth on the Reason for the Visit area for the staff to manually change it in the system.

What Happens Next

Medical Records

If you would like Dr. Hoy to review outside medical records it is your responsibility to have them sent in advance. We may not have access to your medical records system.

For CT, MRI, or bone scans, we require the radiologist’s report for accurate review and treatment planning.

X-Rays

Because many patients are seen at urgent care, emergency departments, primary care offices, or imaging centers before coming to our office, previous x-rays may not provide the information needed for today’s evaluation. When medically necessary, Dr. Hoy may obtain additional or repeat x-rays to safely diagnose and treat your condition. In most cases, you do not need to obtain new X-rays before your appointment.

Our office has on-site digital X-ray equipment. When medically necessary to evaluate injuries, infections, healing, or changes in your condition, Dr. Hoy may obtain X-rays during your visit—even if imaging was performed elsewhere. This allows the appropriate views to be obtained and reviewed immediately and ensures treatment decisions are based on today’s examination. If medically necessary X-rays are declined, your evaluation may not be able to be completed. If you know you would decline medically necessary x-rays, please let us know before your appointment begins so we can discuss your options and avoid an office visit that cannot be completed.

Appointment Length & Timing

“Dr Hoy offers easy scheduling, on-time service, and personable engagement. I did not sense him rushing the appointment even though I knew there were 2 people in the waiting room.” -Cedrick B.

Your appointment is important to us.

Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete check-in. While most office visits are scheduled for 30 minutes, we recommend planning to be in the office for at least one hour due to the individualized nature of specialty foot and ankle care and occasional urgent medical needs.

Every patient receives the time needed for a thorough evaluation, review of imaging or test results, discussion of treatment options, and answers to important questions. Because every medical condition is different, appointment lengths are not always predictable, and occasional delays may occur.

If your schedule does not allow for unexpected delays, we recommend scheduling the first morning appointment (8:00 AM) or the first afternoon appointment (12:30 PM), which are least likely to be affected by earlier visits. If you have strict time constraints, please let us know before your visit so we can discuss whether rescheduling is appropriate.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We are committed to providing every patient with the time and attention their medical care requires.

Location & Parking

We are located in Downtown Seattle’s retail core. All appointments are in-person. We do not offer telehealth or offsite home visits. We are not accepting new senior care facilities.

Please review our Directions and Parking page before your visit to allow extra time for travel and parking.

Communication & Policies

We communicate primarily via secure text and email. Please open messages promptly (links expire after 72 hours).

Review our Policies & Procedures and Patient Appointment Checklist before your visit.

If you need to cancel/reschedule your appointment for any reason, please let us know at least 48 hours in advance, to avoid a $30 fee.

We use secure dictation (Nuance Dragon Medical One) and scribing (Freed) software for accurate documentation.

Our clinic adheres to strict medical hygiene and infection-control standards for all patients and staff. Face coverings are available if needed. If you are ill, please stay home or seek care.

You may receive a quick review request from our office—if you feel we provided excellent care, a 5-star rating would mean a great deal to us.

Appointment Scheduling & First Visit Information

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can request an appointment online using our scheduling tool above or call our office at (206) 682-8741.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your initial visit is designed to identify the cause of your foot or ankle problem and create a treatment plan. This usually includes a medical history, physical examination, and discussion of treatment options. Imaging may be recommended when needed. Some treatments may be performed the same day if medically appropriate.

What conditions do you treat?

We diagnose and treat both common and complex foot and ankle conditions, including heel pain, bunions, sports injuries, diabetic foot problems, tendon injuries, nail disorders, and many other medical and surgical foot concerns.
Please visit our Conditions & Services pages for a complete list.

Do I need to complete paperwork before my appointment?

Yes. All patients must complete required forms in advance.
New patients receive electronic paperwork via Mozart MD
Forms must be completed within 24 hours
Incomplete paperwork may result in cancellation
Please also submit both sides of your insurance card as instructed.

Why is advance paperwork required?

Completing paperwork ahead of time allows us to:
Prepare your medical chart
Verify your insurance
Streamline your visit
This ensures your appointment is focused on care—not administrative delays.

Can I still be seen if my paperwork or insurance information is incomplete?

Usually no. In most cases, incomplete paperwork or missing insurance information will delay or cancel your appointment because we cannot safely or accurately prepare for your visit without it.
This includes verifying insurance benefits, reviewing referral requirements, and determining payment responsibility before check-in.

Do you offer urgent or same-day appointments?

Yes. For urgent concerns, call (206) 682-8741 and request an “urgent work-in appointment.”
We will do our best to accommodate time-sensitive conditions.

Where is your clinic located?

Our office is located in downtown Seattle:
Medical Dental Building
509 Olive Way, Suite 1125
Seattle, WA 98101

Where should I park and how early should I arrive?

We recommend:
Arriving 15 minutes early
Allowing extra time for downtown parking
Please visit our Directions & Parking page for detailed guidance.

How long will my appointment take?

Scheduled visit time: approximately 30 minutes
Total time in office: about 1 hour
Some visits may take longer depending on your medical needs.
If you are on a tight schedule, we recommend booking the first appointment of the day or early afternoon.

How will the office communicate with me?

We primarily use:
Secure text messaging
Encrypted email
Please open secure messages promptly, as links expire after 72 hours.

Urgent care already told me nothing was broken.

A normal x-ray at urgent care does not always rule out a foot or ankle injury. Stress fractures, ligament injuries, and some fractures may not be visible initially, and injuries can change over time. In addition, today’s examination may require different or weight-bearing views to make an accurate diagnosis. If Dr. Hoy determines additional imaging is medically necessary, it is part of your diagnostic evaluation.
