On June 16, 2025, Dr. Hoy was inducted into the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow as a Fellow of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine [FFPM RCPS(Glasg)]. This is a distinguished honor that recognizes the exceptional contributions and achievements of foot and ankle practitioners on a global scale. Dr. Hoy is also a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
The Royal College, established in 1599, is one of the oldest and most prestigious medical institutions in the world, with over 15,000 members and fellows in over 100 countries. This is a society that has seen its founder write the first English language surgical textbook (Peter Lowe, 1597), and its fellows discover aseptic surgery (Joseph Lister, 1865) and perform the first brain tumor operation (Sir William Macewen, 1879).

Most of the top leaders of the foot and ankle medical profession in the United States are fellows of the Royal College.
Fellowship status is a mark of distinction that recognizes a doctor as an established specialist, consultant, senior leader, educator, and researcher within the profession. He applies this broader perspective through a podiatry-first, diagnosis-first approach: evaluating the foot and ankle as a connected region, identifying the underlying problem, and directing care accordingly rather than limiting treatment to a particular symptom, procedure, or type of “foot care.” Contemporary international podiatry increasingly emphasizes functional rehabilitation, progressive exercise, kinetic-chain management, injury prevention, and return to activity alongside traditional medical and procedural care. The same comprehensive approach extends to high-risk foot care—the medical evaluation and management of feet at increased risk of ulceration, infection, tissue loss, or amputation because of diabetes, neuropathy, peripheral arterial disease, deformity, previous ulceration, Charcot neuroarthropathy, or other serious medical conditions.
