EXPERIENCED SPECIALIST
Dr. Jinwah John Hoy has built a reputation of excellence, having served patients in California, Texas, and Washington. Dr. Hoy was born in Seattle in 1970. As a Washington Scholar, he enrolled at the University of Washington in Seattle through its Honors Program, and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Cell and Molecular Biology in 1994.
Dr. Hoy went on to medical school at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, completing his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco in 2000. Much of his medical school and residency didactic and clinical training was provided by faculty of Case Western Reserve University, and the prestigious University of California San Francisco/Stanford University Medical Center, respectively.
He completed a hospital-based podiatric medical and surgical residency in San Francisco and San Diego, California in 2002. He worked under some of the finest foot and ankle surgeons of the University of California, San Francisco, and Kaiser Permanente, San Diego. One of his core sites was the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Francisco, which performed the most surgeries for diabetic patients in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Dr. Hoy then joined a large podiatric medicine and surgery group in San Antonio, Texas. His division focused on pediatric and diabetic populations. He worked extensively with diabetic wounds and performed many limb preservation surgical procedures for hospitalized patients with complicated medical histories. His South Texas experience also allowed Dr. Hoy to attain fluency in Spanish, a language he studied for five years. He returned to Seattle his hometown in 2004 to purchase a practice established in 1990.
Dr. Hoy has owned and operated the Downtown Foot and Ankle Center since 2005, treating a wide cross section of patients and pathology, with clinical sites spanning from Shoreline to Auburn, Seattle to Bellevue. He has also spent countless hours volunteering to provide much needed health care to indigent and uninsured populations. He is often described as thorough and gentle.
Dr. Hoy is a member of the Clinical Faculty of the University of Washington School of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine, as a Teaching Associate. As a teacher, in addition to his patients, he has imparted skill and knowledge to podiatric surgery resident physicians, family medicine resident physicians, pre-medical students and medical assistant interns. He is therefore loved by his patients, referring doctors and trainees, .
His acumen of medical, orthopedic and surgical cases has allowed Dr. Hoy to become a Diplomate of both boards recognized by the American Podiatric Medical Association. These certifications are from the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine, granted in 2006, and the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, with Board Certification in Foot Surgery, granted in 2007. Board certification indicates that a physician and surgeon has acquired advanced training and experience, and passed examinations, to be nationally recognized by the profession.
Dr. Hoy’s two certifications allow him to be a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine. He is a also member of the American and Washington State Podiatric Medical Associations.
Dr. Hoy’s personal interests include continuing education, travel, current events, geography, culture and international cuisine.
